The title of the first episode is “The First Day” that was directed by Bruce Goodison. It is about two weeks after war id declared where the 4th Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers establish defences around the Belgian town of Mons. They hope to march beyond the town’s bridges the next morning. The title of the second episode is “Pals” that was directed by Ben Chanan. In this episode, a group of office workers that come from Levenshulme, Manchester join a local Pals battalion, the 18th Battalion, Manchester Regiment. Immediately, they discover themselves dealing with the Germans at the Somme. Then, the title of the third episode is “War Machine” that was directed by Bruce Goodison. In this episode, 4 years into the war, the British spread tanks along the border of German to break the stalemate.

This is a documentary drama series about World War I. This is a mixture of acted scenes, animation and archive footage. All of the episodes were directed by Jan Peter. In each episode, it tells the story of the first World War but not from the perspective of politicians and the military but from the perspective of housewives, soldiers, factory workers, children and nurses. The result of the series is not only a political or military history of the 1st World War but a story which poignantly captures the moods and feelings of the people.

Paths of Glory is an American anti-war movie that was based on the novel of the same name by Humphrey Cobb. This movie was set during World War I. This movie stars Kirk Douglas who plays as Colonel Dax, the commanding officer of French soldiers who deny to continue a suicidal attack. He tries to defend them against a charge of cowardice in a court martial. Beside him, some other actors of this movie is Ralph Meeker, Adolphe Menjou, George Macready and many others. This movie was directed by Stanley Kubrick and produced by James B. Harris.
