When you watch a streaming video, sometimes we do not realize that we have spent a lot of time. Even we do not realize that we have spent for hours and then we get notified that the quota of data in our phone is exhausted. That’s why some people now think twice to watch streaming video on their smartphone . Usually, they will watch streaming video if their smartphone is connected to free Wi-fi.
This problem is also a concern for some users of Netflix. Does Netflix consume a lot of data? Well, here, you are going to find the answer because we will discuss it. The data that are used by Netflix depends on the quality settings that you have in place. If the quality settings is low that is a basic video quality, it will consume up to 0.3 GB of data per hour. If you choose standard video which means medium quality, it will consume up to 0.7 GB per hour. Then, if you select best video quality which means high quality, it can consume up to 3 GB of data per hour for HD and 7 GB of data per hour for Ultra HD. For Automatic, quality is determined by your internet connection and this is the best option to balance our data usage and the annoyance of dealing with buffering. For Unlimited that is the highest quality, quality will peak at the same rate as High and it is only recommended in case you have an unlimited data plan as well.
But, you do not have to worry about the data usage when you are enjoying Netflix because now you are able to adjust your data usage settings. How to do that? Follow the easy steps below.
- The first thing that you have to do is that you have to access your account page from a web browser and then choose Playback Settings.
- Now, Choose data usage setting that you want which consist of:
- Low: 03 GB per hour
- Medium: 0.7 GB per hour
- High: best video quality up to 3 GB per hour for HD and 7 GB per hour for Ultra HD
- Auto: It is based on your current internet connection speed.
- At last, choose Save.
After you manage the setting based on what you want, it will take about 8 hours for the change to take effect. The settings of data usage only apply to the profile of Netflix that you set them from which means that you are able to have different data usage settings for each profile. In case you are concerned about the total amount of data which Netflix consumes, you have to make sure that you change this setting for each profile. So, if you want to watch the programs in high definition or best quality, it means you have to be ready to lose a lot of data plan. But, if you do not want to spend a lot of data usage, you just have to use low quality.
