  • It Follows (2014)

Sometimes, the simplest concepts can lead the horror movie to be the best. The simplest concept is like a nearly unkillable thing that is on its way to kill you. This method works for The TerminatorHalloween and many more.  But, different from those best movies, this movie takes a novel approach to the concept. The story centers on a girl who catches a sexually transmitted monster which is only goal is to slowly follow its current victim until it can brutally execute them. Nobody who has not been the prey of monster can see it. It can take any human form it wants and the only way to escape is they have to pass it along to another sexual partner. The score that is retro and the fearful cinematography make this thriller into terrifying territory to the point where you cannot believe anyone walking to you for several days after you watch it.

  • Jaws (1975)

The first modern summer blockbuster is not a high flying action movie or science fiction epic but relatively small scale horror movie about a resort town menaced by an enormous Large White shark. The movie that was released in 1975 by Spielberg is pure popcorn and one of the scariest movies of all time.

  • Cube (1997)

This movie is about a group of strangers awakens to discover themselves in a complex system of identical rooms, a lot of which contain hidden, lethal traps for anyone clueless enough to get into them. Without knowledge of where they are, how they got there, or why there are there, they must work together to escape and generally and die trying. Because it all takes place in a single room, it is a good example that the only things that are needed are a solid idea, a little money and the stomach to portray people getting their faces melted or their bodies diced by razor-sharp wire.
